What is slime?

The Origin of Slime

Slime, also known as 鬼口水 in Chinese, was initially introduced by the company Mattel in 1976. It has a soft texture that is non-sticky, allowing tactile manipulation such as kneading, stretching, and shaping. It creates a satisfying pop sound when handled, providing stress relief and relaxation to its users.

As slime gained popularity, creators began using it as a medium for self-expression, resulting in a variety of colors, textures, and scents. Various types of slime have emerged, including Creamy slime made from white glue, which is smooth and emits a crisp sound when poked. Additionally, transparent slime has a clear appearance and a glass-like texture. Informally, there are now over 20 varieties of slime available.

Many individuals have incorporated their creativity into the production process by adding pigments, glitter, or three-dimensional objects to alter the appearance and texture of slime based on different themes such as pearl milk tea, sweet fruit fragrances, and buttery scents.

The Benefits of Slime

Slime is more than a Kid's toy!

Psychologists have highlighted the stress-relieving effects of slime as stemming from the sensory experience it provides through tactile manipulation.Engaging with slime stimulates the user's visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile senses, triggering Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) and achieving stress relief. Due to its temporary distraction from emotions and stress, psychologists often use slime in psychological therapy to improve patients' agitation.

Slime has been shown to have positive effects on:

- Irritability, anxiety, stress, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

- Body-focused repetitive behaviors such as nail-biting (BFRB)

- Mental and psychological well-being.
